A Princess Broken by Misty Gatlin

A Princess Broken
Sarah defines herself as many things: broken, damaged, addicted, and hopeless. Hurt at an early age by someone dear to her, she retaliates by living a life filled with destruction. Her past has finally caught up with her, and she’s ready to call it quits. Her story unfolds when she meets a compassionate stranger who helps her realize past decisions don’t define who she is, and what she thought was the end of her story is only the beginning. A life-changing decision is placed in front of her, and she’s forced to face it head on. What will she choose, and where will that path lead her?
This book touches on so many real issues faced by millions every day.  As a teacher, youth leader, and mom, I see how harsh the world around us really is.  So many things in this world can take control of us.  Usually by the time we realize we’ve lost control, the bondage is so strong, we can’t free ourselves.
In this book, Sarah is so deep in bondage she doesn’t see a way out.  She’s lost all hope and is ready to end it all.  It saddens me how many people come to this point in their lives where they truly feel there’s no other alternative; they feel ending their lives is the only way out of the desperate place they’re in.  It saddens me because too many lives have been lost with this way of thinking, but it also pains me because I’ve been at that same point.  More than once I’ve considered ending the pain inside because I didn’t know another way to rid myself of it.  More than once I’ve taken a small step to finally rid myself of that pain.  It’s a very dark place to be.
When I was younger, no one told me that God wrote a story with me being the main character.  No one told me there was no understudy for my part.  No one let me in on the fact that God created me with plans to give me hope and a future.  I often wonder if that would have changed my way of thinking had I known that back then.
You see, the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but God wants to give you an abundant life, and no situation is ever hopeless.  God won’t allow it.  He always gives you an exit.  Most of the times someone will need to be there to guide you out that door, but it is your choice to open it and walk through.  When the enemy knows you were created with a great purpose in mind—and YOU WERE—he does everything he can to break you and keep you from fulfilling that purpose.  The bondage you might find yourself in is his way of keeping you from your destiny.  If you get to the point where you feel hopeless with the possibility of even taking your own life, then he is on the verge of winning.  If he can get you to that point, he will no longer have to worry about you living the plan God has.
I want you to know that if something has a grasp on your life and makes you feel completely hopeless, there is hope!  God doesn’t look at the bad choices you’ve made and hate you because of them.  He doesn’t turn his back on you saying, ”You got yourself in this situation, so you can get yourself out.”  That’s just not who he is.  Our God is merciful, loving, healing, and forgiving.  He wants you to simply come to him.  His arms are open wide waiting for you to reach out for help because he loves you.  He wants to help you, and he can change your situation and give you hope.
He has put together a team and equipped them with the tools they need to help you out of your situation.  Ask God to open your eyes today so you can see those he’s prepared specifically for you, and allow them to help you turn your hopeless situation into one full of the hope God planned for you.
